I probably don’t have to tell you this but we have a health crisis of epic proportions on our hands and it’s only getting worse. We supersize, double size, and maximize everything! The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the State University of New York (SUNY) estimate there are 15 million people in the U.S. alone (5% of the population) who are morbidly obese. The NIH defines morbid obesity as being 100 pounds or more above your ideal body weight or having a body mass index (BMI) above 40.

The Harvard School of Public Health stated in a 2018 survey that 71.6% of adults aged 20 and over are overweight. And this is for the U.S. alone. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated in 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults were overweight and 650 million were obese. At least 2.8 million people each year die as a result of being overweight or obese. We have an absolute health crisis going on that’s responsible for almost 3 million deaths per year worldwide and hardly anyone is talking about it.


Until Now!

As I said above, I’m on a mission to rid the world of 100 million pounds in the next 20 years but I can’t do it alone. I need your help to do this. I’ll tell you more about that shortly. At this point, I suspect you’re wondering who I am and what qualifies me to take on such a huge challenge.

If you watched my video above, you know that I lost 117 pounds in 32 months. I really did lose all of that weight without surgery, pills, or portions and I really am keeping most of that weight off today. You might find all of this hard to believe but it’s true. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.

My name is Rick Smith. I’m the “Guerrilla Weight Loss on Fire Drill Instructor.” But I didn’t start off that way. I grew up as a pretty skinny kid. Here’s a picture of me as a kid. I’m the good looking one on the left.


I was part of the epidemic until 2009

When I got married I weighed only 180 pounds at a height of six feet four inches. Here’s what I looked like back in the day.

But I learned pretty quickly that I loved the Southern food my wife cooked. Problem was, I was packing on the pounds in the process. Add to that a business failure and a couple of kids with some serious health challenges, and before I knew it, I’d ballooned up to 333 pounds. I couldn’t easily get off the couch.

I was out of breath after climbing only two flights of stairs. My doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. I was headed for an early grave unless I did something about my health, and soon! Here’s what I looked like before I began my weight loss journey.


Then one day in January 2009 I decided it was time to do something about my health. I started eating in a more healthy way. I started engaging in physical activity.  I wound up running more 5K (3.1 miles) and 10K (6.2 miles) races than I can count. I even ran six half marathons and one full marathon. If you would have told me before that time that I’d run races like that I would have told you that was absolutely crazy. But I actually did do it.

Here’s what I look like these days. (I’m the one on the far right. We took this picture right after two of my sons and I finished a half marathon in 2013.)


You might be wondering what my personal health journey has to do with you. Well, I’ll tell you. During my journey I  realized that there was more to living a healthy lifestyle than just nutrition and physical activity. In fact, I realized that mindset was the most important part of the process.

I realized it was so important that I began recording short videos each day. I rotated these videos each day. One day I’d record a mindset segment. The next day I’d record a nutrition segment. Then I’d record a physical activity segment. Over a period of a few years I recorded literally hundreds of these videos.

And now I want to make them available to you. But before I tell you about that, I want to tell you about something else I realized. I realized that we have this health crisis due to weight that’s right in front of us. And I realized that I wanted to do something about it. That’s when I came up with my mission.

And then it hit me. Ridding the world of 100 million pounds in the next 20 years would a HUGE undertaking. It dawned on me that I couldn’t do it alone. I had to enlist the assistance of fitness professionals world wide to make this happen. So how can you assist me with this incredible mission?
